Chemistry is a big factor to getting great photos.  I believe so strongly in the importance of chemistry between couples and their photographer that I wrote an article about how it can help you look good in front of the camera.

Although you’ll know within seconds of hanging out with Amanda that she’s a great person to be around, I found proof in her living room: she has a Dwight Schrute bobblehead!  How awesome is that, right?!

Amanda and Matt’s wedding day started their day off with a first look — something I recommend everyone should do!  As we were preparing, Matt admitted to me that for the first time, he was nervous.  You couldn’t tell from his face at all!  I did remind him that he looks great, his bride-to-be looks amazing, and the wedding will be wonderful, and I’m sure he agreed…

and now for the big reveal…  Words really couldn’t express how tender this moment was, and I’m so thankful for the privilege to be able to capture it.  He was speechless… she was speechless… and as I write this, I’m speechless.  Really. Sweet. Moment.

After a few moments together, they were whisked away to begin the ceremony!

The day was a scorcher, so we stopped for some ice cream to cool off!

Philip lived in Vancouver most of his life until he went off to school and eventually pastored a church in Florida.  Obviously, Vancouver is a special part of Philip’s life, and consequently, is also a special part of Kristine’s life.  Granville Island, Kristine related to me, is an emotional location because it is the one place they always go to when they come visit here.  Since they’re heading to Indonesia, visits to Granville Island will probably not be as frequent as they’d like it to be, so I hope these photos will help you remember this place a little better!

As we passed by a scooter on our stroll, Philip mentioned that, in Indonesia, he’s seen entire families ride a little scooter like this one below.  How they manage to fit more than two people on that little thing is beyond me!  I wasn’t about to ask them to demonstrate for me, but I had to get a photo with them around one!  Sorry, Philip, it’s not a Ducati, but maybe your daily driver?

They are such a sweet, loving family, and it shows!  There was a lot of hugging going on during the shoot, and I like that!

Of course, a shoot for me wouldn’t be complete until I’ve whisked Philip & Kristine away for a quiet moment together.

Oh no!  Due to some crazy loop that ended sending emails into a non-existent email address, any emails that were sent directly or via the web form have disappeared into the vast abyss of the interwebs.  No wonder my email has been collecting cobwebs!

This is where it all started for me… I still remember friends who have been in front of that camera, the places I’ve been, the things I’ve learned… I still remember the sweet sound of film advancing each frame –and the power rewind — it wasn’t like the high-pitched shriek of our old VHS rewinder (remember those?!) but a more smooth, satisfying, whirring sound. Popping the back and taking out the freshly-rewound film felt like receiving a present you couldn’t wait to open. Ah, the days before the instant gratification given by the LCD screens that grace the back of today’s cameras… Sometimes, some things are worth the wait.

Thanks for the memories, old friend!

Throughout the day, I noticed in Nicole’s eyes, the pure joy she was feeling with the realization that the boy that she had a childhood crush on is the man she now loves, and he loves her, and is now her husband! Congratulations, Nicole and Martin!
